Radical prostatectomy (prostate removal) is surgery to remove all of the prostate gland and some of the tissue around it. It is done to treat prostate cancer.
Radical prostatectomy is most often used if testing shows that the cancer has not spread outside the prostate.
Radical prostatectomy is sometimes used to relieve urinary obstruction in men with more advanced cancer. But a different operation, called a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), is most often used for that purpose. Surgery usually is not considered a cure for advanced cancer. But it can help relieve symptoms.
Radical prostatectomy is generally effective in treating prostate cancer that has not spread. This is called early-stage cancer. Following surgery, the stage of the cancer can be determined based on how far it has spread. PSA levels will drop almost to zero if the surgery successfully removes the cancer and the cancer has not spread. If cancer has spread, advanced cancer may develop even after the prostate has been removed.
Robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy
For laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon makes several small incisions in the belly. A lighted viewing instrument called a laparoscope is inserted into one of the incisions. The surgeon uses special instruments to reach and remove the prostate through the other incisions.Post a Query
Robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is surgery done through small incisions in the belly with robotic arms that translate the surgeon’s hand motions into finer and more precise action. This surgery requires specially trained doctors.
Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy is a minimally invasive procedure where small cuts are made near the tumor site, and thin tools are used to remove the tumor and surrounding tissue. Usually patient are given general anaesthesia or an epidural or spinal anaesthesia that blocks nerve routes from the spine and numbs the area. If the cancer spreads outside the esophagus, it often goes to the lymph nodes first. (Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped structures that are part of the body’s immune system.) Esophageal cancer can also spread to almost any other part of the body, including the liver, lungs, brain, and bones.
The main goal of either open or laparoscopic surgery is to remove all the cancer. Sometimes that means removing the prostate and the tissues around it, including a set of nerves to the penis that affect the man’s ability to have an erection. Some tumors can be removed using a nerve-sparing technique. This means carefully cutting around those nerves to leave them intact. Nerve-sparing surgery sometimes preserves the man’s ability to have an erection.Request a Call Back
What People Say About Us
“Just a couple months before, I had been referred to Doctor because, during a routine physical checkup, I discovered that my Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) level had risen by more than a point and a half, to 4.68, in just a year. That fateful day, Doctor called with my biopsy results. I had prostate cancer.
After taking a few days to deal emotionally with his diagnosis, I began extensive research on prostate cancer and the various treatments. I spoke with a number of prostate cancer patients about their treatments and the problems they encountered. Around the same time, one of my friends attended a prostate cancer and brought me information about the BestIndiaHospitals website.
My stay was very comfortable in India and the Prostate Cancer Treatment was absolutely successful once again i say thank you to BestIndiaHospitals.”
